"Type 2 - A Tragic Comedy" is an intense and emotional exploration into the world of bipolar disorder from the perspective of both those who suffer from the illness as well as their loved ones. This live stage performance won "Best of Fringe" at the 2008 Windsor International Fringe Festival and was one of the top ticket sellers at the 2009 Hamilton Fringe Festival where it was declared the "Most Important Show in the Festival" by The Ontario Arts Review's Danny Gaisin. It has been booked by the Ontario Psychological Association and the Canadian Mental Health Association - Oxford Branch, as well as C.M.H.A. Niagara Branch, who teamed with Brock University because of it's honest look at this illness. "Type 2" was also performed as a private show for Eli Lilly Canada Inc. and was given wonderful feedback from Neuroscience Nurses and executives from the company.
Type 2 was researched, written and is performed by Jason Gale, who suffers from the illness. Comic genius and award winning dramatic actress Michelle J. Mainwaring will make you laugh and cry as the tragic heroine Jasmine, a bipolar stand-up comic who decides to go off of her medication. Because of Mainwaring's wealth of stand-up material obtained from 2 decades of comedy experience, audiences who see this original cast performing the show will be treated to a great deal of additional and hilarious stand up comedy generously provided by Michelle, in addition to small amount that was written into the actual script.
The goal of "Type 2" is to demonstrate the importance of medication, treatment and education in order to control this illness as well as to spread understanding among those who live with it as well as all of those who love someone who is suffering from Bipolar Disorder. There is always hope for a new tomorrow.
